These are drawings that I have been working on for a chapbook that my mother-in-law, Laurel, is creating. The title of the chapbook is "The Scale of Things." To read Laurel's poetry visit www.laureleshelman.blogspot.com
I just recovered a photograph of this monstrous paper mache head I painted and constructed during my senior year of college. Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, the head is no longer intact. I had forgotten how absurd (and how large) the head actually was.
My name is Kate Eshelman, and I am currently a K-12 Art teacher In Galatia, IL. In between the busy weeks at school I try to find time to keep up with my own artwork. Although my favorite medium is drawing/painting, I also enjoy creating woodblock prints, ceramics, and photography. It is my intention to illustrate overarching human experiences, such as the admiration/fear of a grandparent, the regret following the loss of a loved one, the joy of animal companionship, the longing for a physical/metaphorical home, and the general complexities that arise when living in relationship with others. It is my hope that my artwork evokes memories of similar experiences for the viewer.
